Here’s what I’ve been up to lately:

I work remotely for New Harbinger Publications (based in Oakland, CA) as the Associate Production Editor.

New Harbinger is an independent, employee-owned press that was established in 1973. We publish nonfiction books about psychology, health, spirituality, and personal growth. My role takes ownership of the proofs process––from coordinating with proofreaders and authors, communicating with production and editorial, and ultimately checking all proofs to make sure they hold up to CMOS or APA styles, as well as our house style. I also help develop some of our future titles, working in batches with the acquisitions editors to provide feedback for the authors.

Previous Editorial Experience

New Harbinger Publications, 2021-Present

I started at New Harbinger in 2021 as an editorial assistant, after finishing my Master’s program at Portland State. My role began as a hybrid of proofs work and administrative duties. I was then promoted to the assistant production editor––a new role for the company, made for me. I act as a liaison between production and editorial and am constantly growing in both realms.

Ooligan Press, 2019-2021

I came to Ooligan Press through the PSU Master’s program. Ooligan is a student-run trade press that puts out around 4 books a year. I began as a staff member and then got promoted to project manager. My main role functioned as the team lead, ensuring the quality and production of a new nonfiction front-list title. I worked with all aspects of the book: from developmental editing to creating the scientific figures within it.

Tin House Books, 2018-2019

This was my first experience in book editing after college. I was an editorial intern for Tin House Books for 7 months and it was the catalyst for wanting to get my master’s degree in book publishing. My role was mostly focused on reading the slush pile, flagging manuscripts that I thought the editorial team would want to read, and occasionally helping with proofs.

On a more personal note, I have been living in Portland, OR, since 2018 and grew up in the Pacific Northwest. I love reading, rock climbing, and trying on new hobbies. I have a fluffy white cat named Momo who has big Old God energy, and who is a formidable supervisor. I have been very lucky to specialize in working on nonfiction books that work towards positive changes in the world, from climate change to mental health awareness. My focus in editing is majorly on the author’s voice, helping them to hone in on their ideas and helping polish their work. The bulk of my work lately has been in proofreading and developmental editing, but I have experience in copyediting and book layout as well.
